COMMUNITY SAFETY COUNCIL
Safe Streets is committed to ensuring that violence intervention and prevention efforts in Pierce County are driven by the people who know these communities best. The Community Safety Council is how we put that commitment into practice.
Funded by the Washington State Department of Commerce through the Federal Department of Justice, the Community Safety Council brings together local residents, community organizations, and partners with lived experience to analyze the landscape of gun violence in Pierce County and determine what strategies will actually work here. This is not a top-down planning process. It is a community-led effort to identify gaps, center local knowledge, and direct resources where they will have the most impact.
What the Community Safety Council does:
Analyzes current data and trends related to gun violence and community safety in Pierce County
Identifies significant gaps in existing intervention and prevention efforts
Guides the deployment of resources to strategies most likely to reduce harm
Ensures that funding decisions reflect the expertise of people with lived experience in the communities most affected
In 2026, Safe Streets is administering and coordinating $250,000 in grant funding for community violence intervention work across Pierce County, with an emphasis on outreach efforts. We have released a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting local organizations to apply.
