As a member of the Washington Association for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention, Safe Streets joined other groups from around the state in January to urge the legislature to make prevention a priority. High school students from Safe Streets' Youth Leading Change program met with lawmakers to discuss the importance of supporting substance abuse and violence prevention in their schools. The day culminated with a rally at the Capitol and remarks from Lieutenant Governor Brad Owen.

On September 16, several hundred community leaders joined Streets Campaign in recognizing the accomplishments of its Superstars--people who have shown remarkable commitment to improving their community. They uniquely demonstrate Safe Streets' mission of empowering people to create safe and healthy neighborhoods.
